I have have a similar problem running on a VPX PC and the WOLF P5000.

$sudo prime-select query nvidia

$nvidia-smi NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

$ dkms status nvidia, 465.27, 5.8.0-43-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia, 465.27, 5.8.0-53-generic, x86_64: installed
